Why We Charge Flat Rates Instead of by the Hour

Most handymen charge by the hour. We don’t, and there’s a good reason for it that comes down to trust.

Hourly pricing puts you and us on opposite sides

When the clock is running, you’re watching it — hoping the job goes fast — while the meter rewards the work going slow. That tension is exactly backwards. Nobody should feel like they have to hover over the person they hired.

A flat price puts us on the same side

When we agree on a price for the job up front, the incentive flips: we’re motivated to work efficiently and do it right, because the number doesn’t change. You know the cost before we start, and you’re never surprised at the end.

What that means for you

  • You approve the price before any work begins
  • No watching the clock, no padded hours
  • The price is the price, even if the job takes us a little longer
  • For jobs we can’t price sight-unseen (like painting), we take a quick look and quote it fast

It’s a simple idea, but it changes the whole experience — and it’s why so much of our work comes from repeat customers and referrals.
